„My name is Yorgos.
I am painter / street artist living and working in London.
Growing up alternatively in Germany and Greece, my multi-cultural upbringing, dark materialism, gender inequalities, fear, and uncertainty in our world in crisis has inspired my work on human complexity.
Rather than focusing on cognitive justifications and expressions, I follow human gestures, taking physical interactions as signs for meanings, emotions, and relations. The moral and emotional qualities of human beings are embodied and emerge through the movement of the body and its interaction with space. The bodies are naked, which enhances its distance from socially constructed views of class, distinction, beauty, and sexuality.“
When the well-known London street artist Yorgos discovered that Matchbox was following him on Instagram, he decided to design an edition of the JAHRESGABE for us – after all, we share the same values and pursue the common goal of working constructively for humanity.
Inspired by his proactive proposal, we entrusted Yorgos with the design of one of the current 4 editions and are delighted to introduce him as an international artist.
Yorgos produced 31 works for us, mostly in A3 format, some in A4 format, most drawn with acrylic on paper cardboard, some glued as silhouettes as a collage.
